Prof. Omi Narayan is a highly acclaimed Consultant Pediatric Pulmonologist and Sleep Physician, who served as Director of Pediatrics and Director of Sleep Medicine at American Hospital Dubai from 2021 to 2026, and is Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Sharjah. His new Dubai practice opens in November 2026.

He specializes in all aspects of pediatric pulmonology: chronic cough, difficult asthma, bronchoscopy, sleep-disordered breathing, cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia, long-term ventilation, and rare lung disease in children from infancy through adolescence.

International Training & NHS Experience

Dr Narayan spent 16 years practicing within the UK National Health Service, based primarily at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, one of the UK's largest and most respected tertiary pediatric centres. There he served as Consultant Respiratory Pediatrician and led the bronchoscopy, sleep, and long-term ventilation services.

He held an honorary academic position as Associate Dean and Senior Lecturer at Manchester Medical School, University of Manchester, where he taught undergraduate and postgraduate students and contributed to curriculum development.

Training & Qualifications

He completed his undergraduate medical training at Mumbai University, followed by post-graduation at King's College London. His pediatric training took place at Evelina Children's Hospital (Guy's & St Thomas') and Great Ormond Street Hospital, before subspecialty training in pediatric pulmonology at Birmingham Children's Hospital.

He holds dual UK board certification (CCT) in Pediatrics and Pediatric Pulmonology, one of very few physicians in the UAE to hold this qualification, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH).

Alongside his clinical training, he has completed leadership development through the NHS Leadership Academy and the Harvard Business Publishing Strategic Leadership Programme, experience he has drawn on in leading pediatric, sleep and long-term ventilation services.

His clinics in Dubai regularly see children and families from more than 70 countries, and from November 2026 he will offer telehealth consultations over Zoom where clinically appropriate, including follow-up reviews and second opinions for families living outside Dubai.

Research & Academic Work

Dr Narayan has 57 peer-reviewed publications and over 500 citations with more than 3,500 full-text reads on ResearchGate. His research spans pediatric pulmonology, sleep medicine, long-term ventilation, rare lung disease, and medical education. He has served as a reviewer for leading respiratory journals and spoken at national and international meetings.
